Keep Scotland Clean – West Lothian Council

Thursday, April 22nd, 2010
April 24, 2010
10:00 amto2:00 pm

Keep Scotland Beautiful and West Lothian Council calls for volunteers to clean up River Almond from Livingston Rugby Club to the Civic Centre.

Keep Scotland Beautiful, and West Lothian Council is calling for the people of Livingston to don yellow tabards and help spring clean their local area of litter on April 24th 2010 at 10am-2pm.

Tired of the crisp bags, juice bottles and other litter that is spoiling River Almond at Livingston, Keep Scotland Beautiful and West Lothian Council decided to organise a clean up event as part of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s National Spring Clean 2010.

Ian Stewart said, “We want to encourage as many volunteers as possible to come and take part in our spring clean.  Litter removal from Scotland’s streets costs over £100million a year which could be spent on other services. We hope our clean up will show others that we have pride in Livingston and by working together we can take responsibility for our surroundings and show that dropping litter is unacceptable.”

Keep Scotland Beautiful and West Lothian Council will be joining hundreds of other community groups, schools, youth clubs, environmental organisations, voluntary groups, businesses and individuals who will be spring cleaning their local areas during April.

In fact, last April almost 60,000 volunteers took part in clean up events as part of Keep Scotland Beautiful’s National Spring Clean. And they gathered enough litter to fill 28,819 standard wheelie bins – proving that even each individual volunteer’s small contribution really does make a huge difference.

If you are looking for a fun, family day out this April 24th, why not join the tens of thousands of people taking part in National Spring Clean and put a bit of a sparkle back
into your local neighbourhood? For further press information please contact Ian Stewart, Environmental Warden, West Lothian Council on 01506 776485 ian.stewart@westlothian.gov.uk or Ian Young Flood Risk Management on 01506 776580 ian.young@westlothian.gov.uk.
