The River is running at approx. 1″ above Summer Level, water clarity is good.

The River has been in good form recently, there are plenty of Sea Trout and Finnock in the system, with rods reporting mixed fortune.  Despite the River being only fractionaly above Summer Level Salmon are still entering the River, I sat and watched a fresh grilse attempting the waterfall at Cramond last night and several Sea Trout leaping clear at the wall pool.  Further upstream there is still plenty of activity, with Brown Trout showing in most (if not all) pools.  Catching them is slightly harder, but the evenings are proving the best time.  The forecast this week is for showers, then heavy rain, so I’m sure there will be good runs of fish towards the end of the week.

The River is running at approx. 1″ above Summer Level, water clarity is excellent.

The River started of at Summer Level, but good numbers of fish were present within the system, then there was a good rise on Thursday, taking the river to approx. 1′ above summer.  Salmon and Sea Trout were showing and finally we received confirmation of a salmon being caught as well as Sea Trout.  The fish should be well spread out throughout the beats, but with the River back down to Summer Level, the deeper holes should be worth fishing.  There is a Work Party planned for this Sunday  meeting at the Railway Bridge for 08:00 and please check out the Outing page, for details of the Clubs outing to Loch Venachar.

The River is running at Summer Level, water clarity is excellent.

The River was perfect at the start of the week, with a 6″ rise and lots of fish visible at the waterfall at Cramond.  These fish must have made a dash for it with no migratories reported within the catch returns!  Maybe next time.  With the River back to Summer Level it would be worth fishing for the Brownies, as usual the riffles should prove the best area for catching fish, with the usual flies being the best to tempt them.  Millar and I were down removing a couple of bikes from the River and watched a couple of Sea Trout leaping around the Cramond Brig last night, so again this may prove a useful spot after the light fades.  The Work Party planned for this Sunday has been delayed a week, as we have quite a few regulars unable to attend, so the next Work Party is now the 22nd Aug, meeting at the Rialway Bridge for 08:00.

The River was running at 6″ above Summer Level, water clarity was ok.

The River came up by 6′ on Sunday and fish were visible at the waterfall at Cramond right through to Monday, there were clear signs that these fish found the salmon ladder and had made it above the falls.  Still plenty of brown trout being caught, with one angler now sitting at 99 for the season!  Not bad.  The River has dropped away since and is sitting around 1″ above Summer Level (Wed 4th) with a nice tea coloured tinge.  The deeper holes should be worth fishing, with both Sea Trout and Salmon resting up and stick to the riffles for the brownies for the best results.
