Cramond Angling Club Rules

The River Almond is a Catch & Release only, all species of fish must be returned safely.

All Anglers Must:

  • Produce a valid permit and allow an inspection of their fishing equipment when requested by a Committee Member or an authorised bailiff on demand.
  • Return all fish to the water immediately.
  • Submit a valid catch return form to the Club Treasurer by the 14th November at the latest.
  • Abide by the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries (Consolidation) (Scotland) Act 2003 http://www.legislation.gov.uk/asp/2003/15/contents
  • Abide by the Anglers Code The Anglers code

Prohibited:

  • Fishing with set lines in any form.
  • Bait fishing before 1st June and after 26th August.
  • The use of live vertebrates as baits, prawn, shrimp baits at anytime.
  • Bait digging on or near the river bank.
  • The use of Gaffs, Tailers or Knotted Landing Nets. Bubble floats, lead core or fast sinking line, multi-hooked lures or more than one baited hook is strictly forbidden.
  • The use of treble hooks in any form is prohibited.
  • Fishing between the Waterfall and the sign on the wall below the Waterfall.
  • Interfering with the Salmon Ladders.
  • Fishing at one point when others are waiting to fish. Move 1m downstream between each cast.
  • Anglers cannot be accompanied with a dog unless another person is in control of the animal.
  • Sunday Fishing except for members fly fishing on Beat 2. 3 & 4 for non migratory  only with a leader of no more than 4lb breaking strength.
  • Fishing below the Waterfall unless with a "All Species" permit.
  • The removal of natural stone from the river banks or bed and the making of croys or other structures.
  • Transferring a permit to another individual.

Any permit holder infringing any of the Rules or who may be or has been convicted of illegal fishing and fails to disclose the matter or any offence under the Acts relative to Salmon or Trout fishing shall forfeit his/her permit with all the privileges carried by it.

Suspension or forfeiture of an angler’s permit may result if an angler acts in an unreasonable, aggressive or inappropriate way to authorised Bailiffs or Committee members or other anglers.

Such forfeiture or suspension shall be subject to a Committee enquiry at which the member may appeal and shall be advised of the result of the enquiry by a letter under the hand of the Secretary of the Club directed to the permit holder at the address stated on his/her permit application.

A conviction under the Salmon Acts will mean an automatic withdrawal of any current permit with a minimum ban of 5 seasons.

Please be aware that river banks are hazardous. Stay clear of undercut banks. Cramond Angling Club recommends the use of lifejackets when fishing.



Club Members Only - No Day Tickets

Cramond Angling Club is pleased to announce that Sunday Fishing is permitted for Brown Trout Only (Introduced in 2008)
The following rules apply:

1.  FLY FISHING FOR BROWN TROUT ONLY

2.  Sunday fishing is allowed upstream of the Old Cramond Brig to the upper limit of Beat Three. No Sunday fishing downstream of Old Cramond Brig.

3.  All fish must be returned to the water immediately.

4. Leader of No More than 4lb breaking strength to be used.

5. Members may be asked for their Permit, and inspection of their fishing equipment to demonstrate their intention of fishing to the Sunday rules.

Any ticket holder infringing any of the Fishing Rules and Regulations or who may be or has been convicted of illegal fishing and fails to disclose the matter or any offence under the Acts relative to Salmon or Trout fishing shall forfeit his/her permit with all the privileges carried by it. Suspension or forfeiture of an anglers permit may result if an angler acts in an unreasonable, aggressive or inappropriate way to authorised Bailiffs or Committee members or other anglers.
